]]>New Tool: einfach visuell — Show, Don’t Describe2026-09-01T01:00:01+02:002026-09-01T01:00:01+02:00https://odon.at/odon/tools/2026/09/01/einfach-visuellExplaining a UI problem to an AI chat tool in words alone is slow, and something always gets lost in translation. Our new tool, einfach visuell (“simply visual”), fixes that: drop a screenshot onto the canvas, drag icons onto it to point at exactly what you mean, then capture the result with your system’s screenshot tool and share it.

Nothing leaves your browser. There’s no account, no server, and nothing is uploaded or stored — the whole thing runs client-side. It’s free to use, available in German and English, and the source code is open on GitHub under the EUPL-1.2 licence.

]]>Internship Wrap-Up: “Digitales Klassenzimmer” Brings Open Data Into the Classroom2026-08-08T01:00:01+02:002026-08-08T01:00:01+02:00https://odon.at/odon/internship/2026/08/08/digitales-klassenzimmerThree weeks, one learning game, a lot of new skills: our interns Chiara and Sarah Hamedinger have completed their internship at ODON with a finished project — Digitales Klassenzimmer (“Digital Classroom”), a browser-based learning game built for real classroom use.

The game’s goal is to give students a playful entry point into topics that are usually taught more dryly. In the interns’ own words, the game covers:

  • the basics of Open Data
  • how data travels across a network
  • core IT fundamentals
  • why checking your data matters
  • media literacy & source-checking
  • data visualization
  • data protection
  • and just how fun — and important — computer science can be

For the media literacy and source-checking module, we were able to get expert input from Mimikama (mimikama.org), the well-known Austrian organization dedicated to fighting misinformation, online fraud, and disinformation. Their expertise helped ensure that part of the game reflects real best practices for spotting manipulated content.

The project is fully open source and now freely available — for teachers who want to bring it straight into their classrooms, and for anyone curious to look under the hood:

]]>Michael Wraps Up His Internship — Open Data Radar Is Live2026-08-05T01:00:01+02:002026-08-05T01:00:01+02:00https://odon.at/odon/internship/2026/08/05/open-data-radar-liveThree weeks ago we welcomed Michael Ebalukhe to ODON to work on Open Data Radar, a project that puts our Open Data Maturity Model (ODMM) to work as a public, searchable registry of Austrian open data. His internship wrapped up this week — and Open Data Radar is live.

What it is. Open Data Radar rates Austrian open data along both dimensions of the ODMM: how legally reusable a dataset is (L1–L4) and how technically usable it actually is (T1–T4) — not just whether someone slapped an “open” label on it. The first release covers 33 Austrian traffic and mobility datasets in a searchable, filterable table, with plain-language explanations behind every rating and a German/English toggle. More categories are planned.

How he got there. Michael’s first week was fundamentals before a line of the project itself got written: Git and GitHub workflows, Markdown, and AI-supported development, using ODON’s own internal curriculum (Learning Git, Learning Markdown, Learning AI-Supported Coding). From there he moved into rating real datasets from data.gv.at by hand, helping draft the rating guide, and shaping the tool people can now use.
